Carbon Emission Reporting Calculators and Resources

There are a variety of Greenhouse Gas emissions calculators available online that allow you to determine you and your family's carbon footprint. The purpose of the calculators is to help you estimate your greenhouse gas emissions and then discover and compare emissions reduction options. The resources below are not used for official reporting purposes however the Energy Information Administration’s Voluntary Reporting of Greenhouse Gases Program provides a report of greenhouse gas emissions

Personal Emissions: The Environmental Protection Agency’s Personal Emission Calculator allows individuals and households to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and take action. This calculator lets you calculate your personal impact at home. Once your carbon impact is established, the site provides ways to explore actions you and/or your family can take to lower your emissions while reducing your energy and waste disposal costs. For each action you choose to take, the calculator displays the amount of emissions you could avoid and how that amount relates to your total emissions.

For more green tips on how to save money on energy and at home download Energy Savers or check out the DOE’s For Consumers website.

Car Emissions Info by Model and Year: The Environmental Protection Agency provides those looking to purchase new or used vehicles a resource for viewing and comparing fuel economy, energy impact, carbon footprint, and much more. The website shows consumers how to save $200-$1500 each year in fuel costs.

Renewable Energy Systems: The Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Consumer's Guide allows you to find tools to help you evaluate your options for generating electricity with a small renewable energy system. System technologies discussed include microhydropower, small solar electric, and small wind electric.

Alternative Fuels & Advanced Vehicles Data Center: Interested in alternative fuels and green vehicles? Whether you are looking to buy a family vehicle or to incorporate green vehicles into your business fleet, the Department of Energy’s Clean Cities Initiative provides an excellent resource that allows you to compare prices of alternative fuels, compare emissions and standards for green vehicles, and find alternative fuel station locations.
